While I watched a movie last night the sound of children yelling outside had me annoyed. Looking out the windows I saw nothing. There wasn’t anyone around as far as I could see. Getting back to my movie the feeling I was being watched was unbearable, once again I look outside and see nothing. Towards the end of the movie my stairs popped. It was the same popping sound it makes when I go up them. Thinking it was settling from having the heat on I didn’t give it a second thought other than looking up at them.
Later in the evening while I’m sitting at my drawing table I hear the stair creak again and out of the side of my eyes I see what I thought was a round black shadow move across the hall towards my bedroom. The desk light was too bright, plus I had on glasses and what I thought I saw was just my eyes not focused from looking away from the brightly lit area. I went to the bedroom to turn up the heat so the room was warm when I go to bed.
At 2:00 am exactly I wake up shivering. I’m freezing and my teeth are chattering it was so cold. I knew I turned up the heat so I just pulled the blankets over my head to keep warm until the heat came back on. It didn’t! I’m still freezing under the blankets and I was too cold to get out of bed. Finally I reached over and turned the light on. My bedroom appeared to be frosty white. Once again I think it’s my eyes not focused from just waking up. I put the blankets over me and walk over to the thermostat. It’s set to 75 degrees. The room felt like a freezer so I turned it up to 80 and went into the bathroom. There’s an electric wall heater I sat in front of until I warmed up. It’s 2:30 when I finally come out of the bathroom, everything looks like it always has. The bedroom is warm, the colors are right. Maybe it was just me. Finally I fell back to sleep only to be woke up an hour later by what felt and sounded like a low pitched rumbling hum. It was under me and I could feel it as much as I could hear it. I rolled off the bed onto the floor. At first I thought it was my Bluetooth speaker connected to the phone. The clock isn’t set to go off on Thursdays, it’s my day off.
At 5:30 am I wake up down stairs in my recliner. I don’t remember coming down here. It feels like I’ve been beat up, my body hurts. Walking through the house there’s nothing out of order. I turned the thermostat down in the bedroom, it was burning up in there. While drinking my coffee, twice I heard short low hums coming from the ceiling near the front door which is in line with my bedroom. I haven’t paid attention to my visitors from the other side in a while, I might have to now.
I started posting about clicks and sounds recorded inside my wall HERE. The 8 hour recording was tedious to get through and I never finished listening to the entire thing. On occasion I’ll read or watch video’s about the familiar things I’ve experienced. Most I see as bullshit, something like 99.9% are crap but once in a while I’ll come across a story that’s exactly the way it happens. A link from Reddit about a lady who recorded the exact same sounds in 2014 that I recorded in 2016. She used an android app and I used a Digital Recorder. I’m not sure where she lives, her Reddit posts seem like she’s an American but our recordings, minus the voices she caught, sound exactly identical. Her post on Reddit is found HERE. Also listen to our recording posted on Soundcloud, the links are in both of our stories.
As I mentioned before I work with the elderly. It’s hard not to get close to them no matter how thick of a wall you’ve built. You get close enough you can tell who they are just by their sounds and odors. I can tell who’s close by without ever seeing them. That’s until they yell my name. This never stops, it’s like the “All-Mike Choir” and it’s nonstop. By the time I’m ready to go home I hate my name. Depending on their healthcare coverage some get aides and assistants to help them with their daily needs. Some get or want very little so they come to me.
The manager says I’ll get use to them passing away, but I haven’t yet. Since the first of the year two of my friends are gone. One day they’re perfectly healthy and happy then they’re gone. I’m cold to it but I’ll never get use to it. I’m typically alone through out the day taking care of running the building and making 50 people happy. Happy as in being quiet for a few days so I can get other things done. Early morning and mid-afternoon are the times when the building comes alive. While the living residents are still asleep, or resting or what ever they do, my friends come out. The building gets so quiet you hear yourself breathing, but that’s when Mr. Brown will clear his throat. Or Ms. Piper comes down the hall pushing her walker with the worn out skids on the carpet. Nellie will sing off in the distance. Then there’s the smell of incense Nicki used to cover the odor of the cigarettes they’re not allowed to be smoking. These are just a few of my friends who’ve died several years ago but never really left.
Twice in the last 24 hours my mom has communicated to me to visit my dad for Christmas this year. There’s two things stopping that; I don’t celebrate Christmas and he made it clear for me not to contact him.
Just as I sat down to write this there was movement across the upstairs hall and stopped at the top of the steps. The air is heavy in here now and I’m unsure who’s visiting. Sometimes you can feel when something’s about to happen.
I took a few pictures the other day. It was a sunny day that reminded me of 9/11. A deep blue sky with no clouds, no sound, just stillness. I have an iPhone for work and I keep my personal phone hidden in the electronics room. This evening I wanted to download the pictures and I found this. I don’t know who this is or why it’s on my phone. I text my brother the other day and heard a woman’s voice say “Mike, I’ll see you.” while I sat alone on the couch in the common area. I looked around and there wasn’t anyone but I’m use to that in the building. This could be who I heard?
Second hour recording empty bedroom. Edited to 6:00 minutes. A lot of activity and you can hear feet running down a long hallway around 4:30.
This is the first of a 7 1/2 hour recording of the wall inside the bedroom. The sounds started 1/2 hour after I left for work on Friday July 15th, 2016. It’s been edited down to 2 minutes. What I thought was inside the wall may be movement inside the room.
